Meet the Team

  • J. Erin is a self-taught artist, but before we go into the professional side, the personal side is what makes her who she is. She’s an amazing person. She is a wife and mother of three truly great children. She is a forever friend. There is only one side to her and it can be described as “truly loving”. She wears her heart on her sleeve. She will stop what she is doing if anyone needs her. Despite what is thrown her way, she picks herself up and keeps moving and she does so with a smile. One of the best things about her is her laugh. She always laughs, no matter what she is going through on the inside. Her laugh is contagious and brightens every moment. These qualities (and these are only a few) make her the exceptional artist she is. All of her art has a story and each one will amaze you.

Artist Statement

What is your intention as an Artist? Why do you make Art?

Art turns life's chaos into a refuge for the soul. Through my work, I capture tranquil, beautiful moments, urging viewers to pause and appreciate their surroundings. Each brushstroke and charcoal line highlights unnoticed splendor. In a society focused on the negative, I aim to redirect attention to love, peace, and humor. By showcasing daily gentle wonders, I create a space for joy and serenity. This commitment to positivity drives my artistic journey, helping me connect with others and emphasize the beauty in everyday life. I hope my creations inspire a deeper appreciation for the marvelous elements around us, fostering inner calm.

What subjects or ideas interest you?

Art is life in all its forms. Each moment offers a unique narrative. I thrive on exploration, from delicate watercolors to bold oils and acrylics. Learning and experimenting with new techniques fuel my passion. Art is my heartbeat, and I aspire to dive into various subjects, whether nature, human emotion, or abstract thoughts. My quest keeps my work dynamic, sharing fragments of life and resonating with viewers.

How do I get inspiration for a new piece?

Inspiration surrounds us at every turn, waiting patiently to be acknowledged and transformed into art. When I am not immersed in the act of creation, I find myself captivated by the world around me. My phone serves as a silent companion, capturing fleeting moments that speak to the heart of human experience—children lost in the joys of play, the tender gaze of a mother enveloping her child in love, the enduring bond of an elderly couple, or the fresh spark of affection between a young couple. Each snapshot becomes a source of profound inspiration, a reminder of the beauty of connection and the remarkable nuances of life's simple pleasures.

While technology offers convenience, the truest inspiration lies often in the act of observation. By looking up from our screens, we can savor the richness of life unfolding before us, inviting a deeper appreciation that translates into my art. The world is a canvas of experiences, and as an artist, I endeavor to capture these moments, conveying the essence of what it means to be human through my work.

Describe your process.  How do you select & Work with your materials?

When inspiration strikes, I meticulously study my muse. I capture every detail—the background, musculature, shadows, highlights, fabric flow, and facial expressions. I start with a 3H graphite sketch, refine it, and overlay with soft charcoal. A spray fixative preserves the sketch for painting.

Next, I explore color, deciding the tone and key hue. I mix the color with Gamsol for a wash, apply it, and wipe excess for a light stain. I trace the composition with a brush, letting the underpainting dry. I then block in darker colors, using layers with linseed oil, Liquin, and different mediums.

Patience is key during the drying and curing stage. After curing, I varnish the painting to enhance vibrancy and protection, drying it completely over three to six weeks. This detailed process makes each work a testament to observation and artistry.

Who are other artist you especially admire?  How have they influenced you?

As a self-taught artist, my journey is shaped by master painters and color psychology. Banksy captivates me with his blend of artistry and activism. His anonymous, thought-provoking murals challenge societal norms. Iconic moments, like shredding a million-dollar painting, highlight his commentary on art's value. His audacity inspires my own path, honoring art's rich heritage.

What else would you like viewers to know, to help them appreciate art.

Art captures human emotions and perspectives beyond words, connecting us to history, culture, and varied conditions. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, it evokes deep feelings, fostering community and shared experiences. Art facilitates emotional exploration, resonating with our lives. Engaging with it enriches our understanding of the artist's vision, enhancing our appreciation of beauty and fostering creativity that benefits society.
