Story of a Woman: Freedom
Freedom is a powerful painting that I am very proud of. This beautiful woman with her glamours full head of natural hair was such an inspiration to me, because she is in her most natural form. The way God created her. It is breathtaking. This woman takes what God gave her and she owns it. It was honestly hard to choose anything to add to this painting because she is so stunning.
The way she is holding herself, and the confidence I feel coming from her, it was so freeing. So, there it is… she will be called Freedom. What is something that symbolizes FREEDOM, birds in flight. I wanted the birds to fly from her mind, as well as draw more attention to her beauty.
Now, I need more of a modern touch. What is more modern than tattoos. I know on my last painting I said all of the women are in gray tones because I wanted to keep culture out of it. I am making a little bit of an exception here. We all know about slavery in America. It was a horrible, despicable, part of our history. You know women are the oldest form of slavery. Can you imagine how horrible it was for a woman slave. So the one handcuff is open for the freeing of the salves after the civil war, but the other handcuff is still closed because she is a woman. You can say women are not slaves all you want. It doesn’t make it not so.
Women are responsible for caring for men, children, and keeping the house in order. Women get paid less for the same position a man would hold in their career. I am not saying all women are under this umbrella. Our society is getting a little better, but here we are in 2024 and we are still not there.
The artwork in this series feature red lipstick on the girls to symbolize womanhood. Some birds are painted in gold, representing immortality and divinity, as we are made in God's image. Women have the power to create life, the gold signifies eternal creation.
I hope you enjoy her story and beauty as much as I enjoyed creating this.
